Not sure where you got your information, but PEP is NOT among the PLs being alleged by Akbayan as an administration-front. We welcome plurality in Congress and genuine party-list groups which truly represent the underepresented without the financial and institutional backing from Malacanang.

SC orders Comelec to release partylist nominees

Excerpts: MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court has ordered the Commission on Elections to immediately disclose the partylist nominees.

In a consolidated decision penned by Associate Justice Cancio Garcia, the High Court also ruled that it was the responsibility of the Comelec to determine the qualifications of the partylist groups.

On the issue of releasing the list of nominees, the high tribunal agreed with petitioners Akbayan and Kilosbayan that non-disclosure was against the public’s right to information, which violated Article 2 and Article 3 of the Constitution.

The high tribunal cited Article III Section 7 of the Constitution, which provided “the right of the people to information on matters of public concern shall be recognized…”

It also pointed to Section 28 Article II of the Constitution which provided that “Subject to reasonable conditions prescribed by law, the State adopts and implements a policy of full public disclosure of all its transactions involving public interest.”

The High Court said, “The people have the right to elect their representatives based on an informed judgment.”

The high tribunal gave the Comelec five days upon receipt of the decision to provide the court copies of the nominees.

The court ruling on the Comelec’s role in determining the qualifications of partylist groups was sought by Bantay Republic 7941 and Urban Poor for Legal Reforms.

In their petition, the two told the High Court that the Comelec had violated the eight-point guidelines it had set to determine which organizations were qualified as partylist groups.

The court said determining the qualifications dealt with factual issues, which the Comelec was in a position to decide.

Alam ninyo, kahit isang milyon pang Press releases, statements at blogs ang likhain ninyo hindi na ninyo maitatanggi na sindikato kayo ng Malacanang, patakbuhing tuta ng OEA at mga bayarang grupo. Hindi bobo ang masa, alam nila kapag peke ang isang grupo at nanlalansi.

Who’s calling him-/herself progressive here? What’s with the “sexist” bit? As far as I see, the debate here on revelation of party list nominees is about concealment vs. exposure of truth, not between progressive and conservative, or sexist and gender-sensitive.

As to the latter, the fact that your organization is criticized for dissembling and Gabriela is recognized for exposing the Farinas memo … the fact that two women’s groups here are treated differently based on what they have done, tells me that “sexism” is irrelevant here, and that the main issue is between truth’s exposure on one hand and its exposure on the other.

‘Yun bang memo ni Health Sec Duque to PGMA in which he suggested using OWWA funds and PhilHealth cards for her own campaign a few months before the 2004 elections … did that memo have barcodes and holograms?

Did ASEC Ahmad Bayam’s 2003 memo to Joey Rufino endorsing Virgilio Garcillano and requesting GMA through Rufino to make Garci a COMELEC Commissioner in time for the 2004 elections … did that memo have barcodes and holograms?

Did the Garci Tapes have barcodes and holograms? Never mind that those don’t compriset a memo, never mind even the 3-hr full tape of Sammy Ong … I’m talking of the GMA-”Gary” Ruado version verified as the “real” conversation by Bunye (“I have two tapes”): did even that version have barcodes and holograms?

If not, are we to believe they were “fake,” as we are asked to believe this latest Farinas memo is “fake,” because of lack of “barcodes” and “holograms,” and in spite of the record of this administration itself for FABRICATION of “official” documents (e.g., Ricardo Manapat “files” on birth records of the late FPJ, among other things)?

The confidential memo from Marcelo Farinas II to PGMA was published in the broadsheets and in sites like PCIJ which enjoy much more credibility than this administration’s lackeys. Na-”kuryente” ba silang lahat? Talaga?
